Smaller prey like birds and wild hares were generally too quick and agile to be hunted with spears and maces so the tribe used long-distance weapons. Not only were most of their hunters well-trained archers but they also developed quite a skill with using a slingshot. Simple construction and the abundance of ammunition made it a perfect tool against small animals but it was also not unheard of for an experienced sling shooter to knock out a deer or even a boar.
